Electrical Installation

Our Electrical Installation provision offers full-time and apprenticeship courses for all ages and skill sets.

The preferred route to become an electrician is via an apprenticeship. We recommend enrolling on a course to gain the basic knowledge and then transferring to an apprenticeship to gain that essential industry experience.

Our courses range from Level 1 up to Level 3.

Level 1 offers a hands-on, very practical course. We provide all the skills needed to do electrical hands-on work. There’s a little scientific theory in the course too but the majority is practical.

Our Level 2 course is 50% theory and 50% practical – in the workshop. The theory is physics, it includes a lot of mathematical work. Therefore, we ask that students applying have at least a C in maths.

The Level 3 course is more theoretical as it’s around testing, signing off jobs and safety. You can only progress to level 3 if you have completed our level 2 course. There is no direct route.

All our courses are very much aligned to apprenticeships so that you can transfer or switch at any time whilst you are on the course. Courses are 3 days a week and provide you with the same technical information that you would gain on apprenticeships.

We teach you the skills needed to work at an electrical company or set up your own business.

All of our course levels require one week of work experience in industry. This allows students to find out what they want to specialise in, to network and to see if they enjoy working in the real world.

Joe Green…

“I am more of a hands-on learner. I did quite well in school but I wasn’t interested in sitting down to study and do exams. University wasn’t for me. The apprenticeship route was perfect for me and I didn’t realise how perfect until I actually started doing it.

On the apprenticeship I would be at work for 4 days and then have a day in college – which was really fun actually, and a really good experience. I made new friends and learned new things. There was quite a bit that I had to learn for my final exam that I didn’t have a chance to do day to day which the tutors taught me in college.”
