HIGHER APPRENTICESHIPS AT CHESTERFIELD COLLEGE

Apprenticeships are designed by employers and equip apprentices with the relevant knowledge and skills to prepare them for a successful career in their chosen work area. They also gain valuable work experience and learn transferable skills that prepare them for the future.

Quick find:

The option to study to a degree level has become a great alternative to university. An apprenticeship comes with the bonus that it comes with a wage and doesn’t come with the debt of a traditional degree.

Things to know

  • Higher Apprenticeships take 2 – 5 years to complete.
  • 90% of learners progress into a full-time role within the company they undertake their apprenticeship.
  • Level 4 apprenticeships are equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.
  • Level 5 apprenticeships are equivalent to a foundation degree.
  • Level 6+ is equivalent to a full undergraduate or master’s degree.
  • Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for a higher-level apprenticeship if they have the required grades.
  • If you don’t have your maths and English qualifications, you will need to study these alongside your apprenticeship at the college.

Benefits of an apprenticeship

  • You are treated like a full-time employee. This includes holidays, getting a wage and sick pay.
  • Gain professional experience for your CV.
  • There are no costs.
  • There’s potential for you to progress into a full-time role in the company.

Straight away I can see how the qualification has benefited me. I started applying for higher paid jobs and had lots of interest because of the Higher National Diploma. I now have a full time job and they said that my determination to move for work and education impressed them.”
