BURSARY/FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Each fund has different eligibility rules depending on age, course funding, household income, receipt of means-tested benefits and personal circumstances. The criteria changes each year.

You may be eligible to access financial support through the following funds during the academic year:

  • 16 to 19 Bursary (including free college meals)
  • 16 to 19 Vulnerable Young Person Bursary
  • 19+ Adult Bursary
  • Advanced Learner Loan Bursary
  • 20+ Childcare
  • Higher Education Bursary (only if you are studying on a higher education course eg. HNC/HND/Foundation Degree)

Higher Education Bursary Policy 2024/25

16 – 19

If you are aged between 16-18 and your household income is below £29,000 you may be eligible for help with kit/equipment, uniform and travel.

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is provided by the Education and Skill Funding Agency (ESFA) and is designed to help with the essential costs associated with accessing post 16 education. The funding is designed to support those students most in need of financial support to enable them to engage in education provision. Students can apply for the 16-19 bursary if they live in a household with an income of £29,000 or under.

If your household income is between £29,000 and £41,500, you may be eligible for help with travel only.

19+

If you are aged 19+, you are on a course of further education (e.g. an Access to HE level 3, or other FE course) and your household income is below £31,000 you may be eligible for help with kit/equipment, uniform and travel. If your household income is between £31,000 and £41,500, you may be eligible for help with travel only.

Higher Education Bursary

This applies to anyone of any age on an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree course and with an income under the threshold, and funding their course via a Student Tuition Fee loan, you may be eligible for a small bursary to supplement the Student Finance.
