Derbyshire Young Artist of the Year

If you are between the age of 8 and 18 why not get creative and enter our competition for a chance to be crowned as Derbyshire’s Young Artist of the Year?

We’re working with the Derbyshire Times to celebrate the creative skills of young people across Derbyshire.

You could be in with a chance of winning a prize as well as having your photographs, paintings, drawings, collages or sculptures exhibited in our virtual gallery as part of our annual Arts Festival.

Everything you need to know about the rules of the competition and how to enter are below.

The brief:

Create a piece of art which reflects your thoughts, feelings or observations on the theme of

‘The pandemic and me.’

Please make sure you have read and understood the competition rules below before entering the competition.

Competition  Categories:
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts (painting, illustration, collage)
  • 3D Art (sculpture)
Age Group Categories:
  • Age 8 to 11
  • Age 12 to 14
  • Age 15 to 18
Competition Category Specifications:

All entries must be inspired by the open brief of ‘The pandemic and me’.

Photography

One digital photo per entrant, uploaded/submitted as per guidelines given above. Entries should follow the open creative brief above. Files must be hi-res and not in a Microsoft Word document.

Visual Art

Create a piece of visual art that you think reflects the above open creative brief. This could take the form of an illustration, painting or collage.

3D Art

Create a sculpture made of any material that reflects the open creative brief

The prize:

There are two opportunities to win a prize.

The winner of each age category will receive a £10 Hobbycraft voucher.

An overall winner will be selected from each of three different medium categories (Photography, Visual Art and 3D) and receive a £25 Hobbycraft voucher.

How do I submit my entry?:

To submit your entry, please send a good quality photograph or scan of your art work via WeTransfer to marketingteam@chesterfield.ac.uk. Your email must also include details of your full name, school name, year of study, address, contact telephone number and email address. (please read the terms and conditions below)

Terms and Conditions:

Number of entries: You may submit one entry in each category only

Closing date for all entries: 5pm, 16 August 2020

By submitting your entry you give Chesterfield College permission to display your work in our virtual gallery and on social media. We will credit your work with your first name age and details of the school you attend.  If you don’t want your name to be used on social media please tell us when you submit your entry.

Public voting will take place between 17 and 26 August. Winners from each category will be announced on 28 August.

Rules of entry:

All entries must be your own work, or work of the group

Entrants who are over 13 give their permission for their work, photos and name to be published in printed and online press and media.

Students are restricted to one entry per category

All entries must be submitted by the published closing date to be considered for judging

All entries MUST NOT include visual or written content that is deemed abusive, or has a racial, discriminative or sexual nature

All entries meeting the criteria will be displayed on the virtual gallery.

A public vote will take place to shortlist the entries in each category after which a judging panel which will consist of Chesterfield College creative industries qualified staff, representatives from the Derbyshire Times and practising creative industry professionals. Where a student is related to or known by a panel member, the panel member will not have a voting right and their vote will be referred to the Chief Operations Officer

The judging panel’s decision is final.

All entries may be used in all marketing of the Arts Festival deemed appropriate by Chesterfield College
