Automotive student Wandiswe is thriving at Chesterfield College

15 October 2026

Level 2 Automotive student Wandiswe Ndlela is loving his time at Chesterfield College, enjoying the practical side of his course, the support from his tutors and the friendships he has made along the way.

Wandiswe particularly enjoys the hands-on approach to learning, giving him the opportunity to develop practical skills and build his knowledge of the automotive industry.

“I really enjoy the practical side of the course. I like being able to get hands-on and learn new skills, and I enjoy what I’m doing.”

Alongside his studies, Wandiswe has praised the support he receives from his tutors, helping him feel comfortable and confident in his learning environment.

“The tutors are really supportive, and that makes a big difference. I feel like I can ask for help when I need it, and I enjoy coming into college.”

For Wandiswe, college is about much more than gaining a qualification. Since starting his course, he has made lots of friends and loves the welcoming atmosphere at Chesterfield College. He feels part of a community where he can learn, develop and enjoy spending time with others.

“I’ve made lots of friends here, and it feels like a community. You get to meet new people, make friends and enjoy being here.”

Looking ahead, Wandiswe hopes to secure an apprenticeship and eventually pursue a career in motorsport, something he is particularly excited about. He is keen to build on the skills he is developing at college and turn his passion for the automotive industry into a future career.

“I’d love to get an apprenticeship and go on to work in motorsport. It’s something I’m really excited about, and it would be great to turn what I’m learning now into a career.”

Dale Spragg, Vocational Lead for Automotive, said: “It’s great to see students like Wandiswe come through our doors, develop both personally and professionally, and start thinking about their future. Seeing students build their confidence, discover what they’re passionate about and set their sights on careers in the automotive industry is what it’s all about.”

Wandiswe’s experience highlights how studying at Chesterfield College can help students develop practical skills, build friendships and take their first steps towards an exciting future.
