Students across campus were celebrating today after collecting their results across a multitude of courses, including BTEC, A Levels and T Levels. Staff were on hand to celebrate with students, discuss next steps and options and provide support wherever necessary. We were delighted to speak with some of the smiling success stories to come out of the day.
Results day spells success from A to T (Levels)
16 August 2024Summer, Violet and Jess all received the results they needed to progress onto the second year of study for the T Level in Education and Early Years. With industry placements playing an integral part of their studies, each felt this has been key to their success and enjoyment of the course so far. “The experience you gain helps to confirm in your mind that, yes, this is the industry for me. I love it. Helping the children with activities such as the nativity play has been so rewarding”, explains Summer who has been on industry placement at Tibshelf Infants School.
Violet adds, “I absolute love my placement at Whitwell Primary School. Anyone can be told what to teach a child but it’s another thing learning how to get through to a child and really get them to listen and learn, nothing is by a textbook. Gaining this experience and learning from staff is like being given cheat codes in getting through to children, it’s invaluable.
“I’ve found it really seamless balancing the placement with classroom study as they compliment each other but also feel really separate so I could give both parts of the course all of my attention. I’ve really enjoyed the extra curricular activities such as sports days. In fact the school asked me to stay on until the end of term after my placement finished and even now over the summer I’m now working there as part of their summer club”.
Jess adds, “It’s been brilliant on placement at Brampton Primary School. The staff are amazing and the kids are wonderful. The hands on experience of concepts such as behaviour management has been so helpful to inform my coursework, as has working with children from so many diverse backgrounds and cultures”.
A Level rates at the college are above the national average this year and boasts a pass rate of 95.6% so there were plenty of happy faces whilst picking up results. Liam is delighted with his A Level results and tells us a real story of perseverance to ensure he can now start on the career path he really wants. “Last year I got a B and 2 Cs so I repeated the year and this year I’ve achieved an A in Biology and B in Chemistry to go with my existing C in my Politics. It means I’m now going to study Dentistry at Bristol University and I can’t wait. I’m so proud of myself for repeating the year, it was frustrating at first but I’m so glad I’ve done it as it means I can now go on to do what I really want to do. For anybody who may find themselves in a similar situation, remember it’s only one year out of your life in order to do what you REALLY want to do so don’t be afraid to persevere. Chris Jones and Tom Hogg have been absolutely brilliant tutors and provided me with vital support and guidance in improving my results, I can’t thank them enough.
“Over the years I’ve actually studied at four different sixth forms and the Sixth Form at Chesterfield College is by far the better experience and environment in my opinion. You are treated as an adult and are given a lot of independence which will help me start on the right track at university.”
Grace is over the moon with her A in Psychology and B in Biology and is now considering which pathway is best for her with her new qualifications now in the bag. Grace explains, “During my time here the support I’ve received and mindset that tutors have given me have helped me to overcome some initial stresses and strains I had in terms of balancing my workload. They’ve helped to press on, keep going and I’m incredibly proud of myself for achieving these grades. Similarly to Liam, Chris and Tom have been amazing in terms of their guidance, my tutor Amanda too, I can’t thank them enough. ANYBODY interested in studying the sciences must come here, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
“I initially wanted to progress on to an apprenticeship in either bio technology or finance but now having received the results I’m also in a fantastic position of being able to consider university courses in Biology too so I’ve a big decision to make now, I’m in a privileged position. Doing A Levels doesn’t just teach you how to revise, it teaches you time management, patience, determination and motivation, all aspects that you can use in any aspect of your life to make something of yourself, that’s equally as important as getting the grades.”
