From Travel and Tourism to Tui

Kaitlyn and Abbi currently work for a well known travel agent, Tui, at the branch in Chesterfield, after completing their course in Travel and Tourism here at Chesterfield College.

After completing her course in 2023, Kaitlyn planned to apply to university, but found a career opportunity in the field she wanted to instead. She  originally applied for this role in a different Tui branch and her application was forwarded to Chesterfield, who immediately offered her the job. Abbi had her heart set on doing travel and tourism here at College after speaking to our tutors and touring our facilities, she later passed her course with flying colours and joined Kaitlyn at Tui in 2024. 

Abbi shared ‘I did some work experience whilst I was at College and that’s when I realised where I wanted to be. I wanted to talk to people all day, every day and I really enjoy my current role. I applied for a lot of different roles in the travel industry, but when the Tui job came up, it was definitely right place, right time and I am so glad I went for it’ 

Both of them shared that talking to customers is a huge part of what they love about their job and that the environment at College really helped to support them in their current role. They shared that the customer profiling they did as part of their course has helped them so much in talking to different customers and learning how to best guide them, which has made them thrive in their current roles and given them the head start they needed. 

Kaitlyn shared ‘There isn’t a specific path that you should take to get into travel, no matter what part of travel you’re interested in, just try and get into the industry and it will be so much easier for you to progress.’ 

Abbi adds ‘After College, you can go from retail to cabin crew to customer service and as long as you’re in there, your world opens up. College gives you the qualities that you need to be friendly, talkative and successful in the industry.’
