New MenB Vaccination Programme
30 June 2026This is in response to recent outbreaks of MenB cases amongst students and teenagers, particularly in university and shared accommodation.
The NHS is offering a free MenB vaccine to eligible young people before they start university in Autumn 2026.
MenB can cause meningitis and serious blood infections, with increased cases seen in teenagers and students living in shared accommodation.
Who is eligible?
- Those born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
- Under 25’s starting university/residential further education for the 1st time in Autumn 2026
Students need two doses, with a minimum of four weeks between them. Families are encouraged to start this process early in the summer to complete both doses before the university term begins.
Bookings are expected to open from 13 July 2026, with walk-ins from 20 July 20206 at participating pharmacies.
