International Women’s Day talk: Teresa Waldron, CEO Deaf-initely Women

Teresa Waldron has been awarded the Outstanding Female Disability Champion Award 2024 at the Women’s Awards East Midlands. The award celebrates Teresa’s dedication and her tireless work to ensure inclusivity and support for all Ddeaf, Ddeafblind, and hard-of-hearing women and her determination and leadership in making a lasting impact on deaf people’s lives. Teresa, who has a deafblind condition herself, talked to us about her experiences and how she now works tirelessly to inspire other women.

Deaf-initely Women brings deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind women together. The idea to set up Deaf-initely Women all started during a birthday meal. Ten deaf friends were celebrating being deaf women as well as discussing the problems that they encountered in their daily lives. They acknowledged how fortunate they were to have each other for emotional support which gave them strength in their daily lives. They realised that other Ddeaf, Ddeafblind and hard-of-hearing women needed this support and established an organisation to help others.
