A first workshop took place today in carpentry and joinery leading up to our #projectperegrine installation in 2026.
First workshop for #projectperegrine
15 December 2025
Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery students spent a fascinating morning with Bryn who represents the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and Chatsworth Estate to discuss the upcoming installation of a brand new home for (hopefully) nesting Peregrine Falcons in the new year right here on campus.
It was amazing to find out about how chicks are monitored and even DNA traced to check on their lineage as they continue to need protection from egg thefts for illegal dealers.
In addition to discussing the materials and construction that go into a variety of birdboxes and nesting sites, Bryn brought in an example of 3D printed nesting boxes made from sawdust which last hundreds of years before decomposing naturally.
Stay tuned in the new year for progress on #projectperegrine and we look forward to working with Bryn and the BTO on future projects wherever we can.
