Chesterfield College Students Receive Awards

Two students from Chesterfield College received financial awards this week from The Old Cestrefeldians’ Trust during a ceremony held in the former Grammar School buildings.
The presentations were made by Brell Ewart MBE, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, President of the Old Cestrefeldians’ Society, and a former student of Chesterfield Grammar School.
Frank Gorman, Chair of the Trust, explained:
“The Trust was established to offer assistance to deserving pupils from secondary schools within the former Chesterfield Borough. The awards are given to students nominated by their schools and are intended to recognise outstanding achievements, sometimes in the face of real challenges. As well as rewarding a number of students each year, we have also provided additional funding to the North East Derbyshire Music Centre, helping them to buy sheet music, and supported another school to purchase gardening equipment for pupils who might otherwise have been excluded.”
Jo Down, Assistant Principal, Student Experience and Wellbeing at Chesterfield College explains, “We’re delighted to work with the Old Cestrefeldians’ Trust as they share our ethos of providing as much support as possible to those who need it in order to flourish in their education. These financial awards make a real, tangible impact on the winning student’s learning and is a great example of our local community working together for the benefit of our next generation.”
