Our Highlights
Apprenticeship Drop-in Sessions
We hosted multiple Apprenticeship Drop-in Sessions throughout the week. These were run by our Apprenticeship Team at the college. Both students and employers had the opportunity to come and talk to the team and find out more about our Apprenticeship Programmes and the benefits for them.
Supporting Apprentices Wellbeing
We hosted two fantastic sessions around supporting apprentices’ wellbeing at our Chesterfield and Derby campuses this week.
The sessions provided employers with valuable insights on how to support the well-being of their apprentices. We shared practical tips, guidance on identifying Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and advice on meeting safeguarding responsibilities and legal duties.
Visiting the employers we support
Throughout the week we dropped in at a number of different employer customers to check in on their progress and discuss their apprenticeship plans going forward. An example being our visit to I C Electrical in Burton.
Apprenticeships have become an integral part of their workforce and sustainable growth over the years. It’s fantastic to see those who started out in hands-on roles, pursuing Engineering Apprenticeships, now advancing to Team Leading Apprenticeships to share their skills with new recruits.
It was a fantastic visit, serving as a shining example of how apprentices can bridge skills gaps in an industry and help a business flourish.
Our Employer Roundtable
The lunch was attended by our Governors and Employers to discuss the future vision for Chesterfield College, focusing on training and development.
It was an excellent opportunity to share ideas, form new relationships, and collaborate on enhancing the growth of our employer partnerships.
Thank you to our Hospitality and Professional Cookery department and students for hosting and providing exceptional food and service.
Taster Sessions for local schools
Students from local schools took part in a series of tasters here on campus. The day consisted of an interactive Employer Q&A session and attending our What is an Apprenticeship Workshop.
Their positivity to engage fully, ask questions and actively take part in all areas of the day was fantastic.
Apprenticeship Careers Fair
To raise awareness about the value of apprenticeships among our current students, we hosted an exciting careers fair.
We welcomed a diverse group of employers who enthusiastically showcased their businesses, offering insights into the multitude of career options and the potential progression pathways available through apprenticeships.
The event was a brilliant opportunity for students to explore the various routes they could take in their future careers, covering a wide spectrum of sectors, from technology to healthcare to the arts.
To hear from some of the fabulous employers who attended, check out the reels on our Instagram.
Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Employability & Skills Conference
We were proud to host and support this year’s milestone 10th Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Employability & Skills Conference, organised and led by the council Destination Chesterfield.
What a great opportunity for students to get involved with employers, governers and other apprentices during round table discussions. The event enabled local employers to interact and connect with our students, explore funded training and hear about the future of skills across our region.
A day in the life of an Apprentice
Claire Godfrey, one of our Vice Principals at Chesterfield College, visited MSE Hiller to experience a day in the life of one of our current Engineering Apprentices.
MSE Hiller provided hands-on experiences and shared valuable insights about their apprenticeship programmes and the incredible work their apprentices are doing.
Apprenticeship Awards
The Apprenticeship Awards were a fantastic way to close the wonderful week of celebrations for Apprentices, Employers and Employees here at The Chesterfield College Group.
An inspiring evening, celebrating the hard work of apprentices and their employers over this past year.
It was wonderful to see the support of staff and employers, no matter the sector, for every single one of the hard-working apprentice winners.
Trades Competition
Apprentices from Slack and Parr, I Holland and Gibson Technology took part in a trades competition at the Slack and Parr premises in Kegworth.
A massive thank you to Peel Electrical for donating the kit for the competition, to our staff for pulling the event together, to Rebecca Hollamby and Jim Davison for judging the competition and to Slack and Parr for hosting the day.
A big well done to the eventual winners, Gibson Technology, It summed up the whole week by demonstrating not only working with our employers but truly working in partnership together.
