Harriet celebrates the rewarding experience of her apprenticeship at Chesterfield College

09 September 2026

Second-year Gas Engineering apprentice Harriet is loving her apprenticeship at Chesterfield College, describing the experience as “rewarding” and saying it has helped her grow both professionally and personally.

Harriet has particularly enjoyed the balance between learning at college and gaining practical experience in the workplace, where she works with a range of customers and develops her skills every day.

“I love my apprenticeship. I love the people I work with, and I love talking to customers every day. That interaction with customers is probably the best part of my job.”

Alongside gaining valuable workplace experience, Harriet has also praised the support she has received from her tutors and the College throughout her apprenticeship.

“The tutors are really supportive. They break the lessons down so they’re easy to understand, but they still make them fun.”

For Harriet, being supported does not mean she is not challenged. She enjoys the fact that every time she comes into college, there is something new to learn or overcome.

“It challenges me enough to feel like I’ve got something to overcome every time I come to college. I really like that.”

The combination of practical experience, college-based learning and the people around her has made a lasting impact on Harriet, who believes her apprenticeship has helped her grow both professionally and personally.

“I feel like my apprenticeship at Chesterfield College has really made me become the person I am today.”

I love my apprenticeship. It’s been such a rewarding experience, and I honestly wouldn’t change anything about it.”
