Chesterfield College has celebrated National Manufacturing Day by highlighting the exciting opportunities available to students and apprentices looking to build a career in the sector.
National Manufacturing Day is an opportunity to showcase the people, skills and businesses behind the UK’s manufacturing industry, while encouraging the next generation to explore the wide range of careers available.
For Chesterfield College, this year’s celebrations come at an exciting time, with the opening of its new Advanced Manufacturing and Life Sciences building.
The multi-million-pound investment has created modern, specialist facilities for students studying Engineering, Manufacturing and Life Sciences, giving them access to industry-relevant equipment and practical learning environments.
The new building reflects the College’s commitment to preparing students for the changing needs of industry and ensuring they develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress into employment.
As part of National Manufacturing Day, the College also supported Made in Chesterfield’s programme of activity, which brought local schools and manufacturing businesses together to give young people a first-hand insight into the sector.
More than 70 students from six local schools visited manufacturing businesses across Chesterfield, taking part in factory tours and an Innovation Challenge. Chesterfield College students also helped judge the Innovation Challenge, allowing them to work alongside local businesses and contribute to the event.
The day provided an opportunity for students to see that modern manufacturing goes far beyond traditional perceptions of the industry, with careers spanning engineering, technology, digital skills, design, production and much more.

The College continues to work closely with employers to create opportunities for students to gain valuable industry experience alongside their studies, including through industry placements, apprenticeships and other employer partnerships.
