The course will provide learners with an introduction to performance and production arts, enabling them to both re-engage with education and acquire the requisite skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to further education and employment within the performing arts industry.

Emphasis is placed on providing an experience which draws on the realities of the performing arts industry, with students being treated as young professionals and encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own learning.

Course Structure

Throughout the year, learners will develop acting, vocal, movement and production skills and work collaboratively on key projects and performances.

Learners will study a number of key units including: Introduction to performance and production, Communicating with an audience, Staging a performance, Contextual research, Performance and production skills, Personal project and Producing and performing to an audience.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above – must include English, Maths and a creative subject (extracurricular performing arts experience will be considered). You will also take part in a group audition workshop, showing your performance skills and passion for performing arts (acting/movement/vocal). If you have not achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths you will study this as part of your programme. *Applicants without grade 3 in maths may be considered if a high standard of skills is demonstrated at audition*

Fees and funding

Free for Eligible 16-18 year olds. Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Progression

We want to see you progress not only in your performing arts skills but in your aspirations, career and education. We offer a natural progression to Level 3 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts and a HNC in Performing Arts Career wise, the Level 2 course would enable progression into industry-related apprenticeships. It could also lead to entry level positions in the following areas/roles: Theatre Design and production Performer (dancer, actor, vocalist)Youth worker Entertainment staff Director Choreographer
