Pathways to Independence is designed for students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). Some students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The course is designed to support you in building skills you need for everyday life, personal development, and your future. Our programme helps you become more confident and independent, in college, at home and lots more.

Your timetable will include:

  • Independent Living and life skills
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Functional Skills English and maths
  • Digital Skills
  • Planning for my future
  • Supported Work Experience

While you are in pathways you will become more confident, better at problem solving. You will take part in activities, try new things and get to know your strengths and be more ready for adult life.

Course Structure

What next?

After completing the programme, you may:

  • Return to Pathways to Independence to develop your skills further
  • Move on to the Pathways to Personal and Social Development course
  • Move on to the Pathways to Vocational Learning course
  • Move on to the Pathways to Work course
  • Move into employment or supported work
  • Attend local day services

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements on foundation learning courses.
