This course provides an opportunity to explore, develop and test creative ideas in practice through a broad range of materials and processes, which include both traditional and digital approaches. You will develop skills and knowledge in specialist areas of art and design, including two- and three-dimensional design. This course is aimed at individuals with some creative experience who wish to extend their skills and understanding in a range of art & design material areas, those wishing to step back into art & design education or those wishing to progress onwards to a Level 3 qualification or similar.

You will develop an awareness and understanding of the Art & Design industry through workshops delivered by visiting practitioners and by undertaking live projects and competition work. During this course you will be supported to carry out work experience that is relevant to the subject you are studying.

Course Structure

This course will prepare you for working in a creative sector, develop your professionalism and personal skills, team work, organisation and communication skills.

You will be undertaking projects which will include ceramics, textiles, design, sculpture, painting, drawing and printmaking. By the end of the year you will have a strong portfolio of work, and will have completed a final project which provides the opportunity to explore an area or product of your choice.

Entry Requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above or a relevant Level 1 qualification and a portfolio of creative work available to discuss at interview. Applicants without the minimum requirement but demonstrating exceptional creative ability throughout their portfolios may be considered.

Free for Eligible 16-18 year olds. Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Progression

The course will provide you with a broad education and training in art and design, creating opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge in specialist areas which can support progression to Level 3 qualifications in art and design, or apprenticeships.
