Empowered: A visit from the High Sheriff of Derbyshire and Open Evening
22 November 2024We recently welcomed the High Sheriff of Derbyshire into College to speak to students and on Wednesday we hosted our first Open Evening of the academic year, which was a huge success!
A visit from the High Sheriff of Derbyshire
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Ian Morgan OBE and Diversity and Community Relations Magistrate, John-Charles B Tanner JP to the College, who gave an incredible presentation to our students.
John-Charles B Tanner JP has been visiting the College annually over the last three years giving presentations about the work of the Courts and, in particular The Magistracy, to groups of Public Services, Criminology and Law students.
They gave a presentation that covered a vast number of topics such as the history of the Magistracy, diversity and inclusion, sentencing, interactive quizzes and more. The students were incredibly honored to meet both the High Sheriff of Derbyshire and the Diversity and Community Relations Magistrate and they made sure to ask them lots of important and extensive questions which were answered during a Q&A at the end of the session.
Hospitality and Catering
This week, Emma from the Department of Working Pensions visited our Hospitality and Catering students, working closely with each tutor group to support them with a range of different things, such as cv writing, finding and applying for jobs, interview techniques and understanding your payslip. Emma has met with every group and they got to choose 3 further subjects in which they would like support with in the future.
Open Evening
On Wednesday 20th November we held our first Open Evening of the next academic year, which was a huge success as we welcomed so many potential future students onto campus. The event stayed busy throughout the evening, with each subject area hosting their own stand in the Heartspace where they answered any of our visitors questions and even took them to tour specific subject areas. Students were also excited to meet our campus therapy dog, who had their own area towards the back of the event.
This event also welcomed the launch of our new Parents Hub, where parents can find out more about College support services, such as safeguarding and our wellbeing hub. They could also explore their own future options such as teacher training, working with the College, retraining and so much more.
If you missed the event then don’t worry because we have another one one the 4th of February 2025, where students will get the chance to see our campus, meet with tutors, talk to our support teams and learn about all we have to offer so make sure you don’t miss out and reserve your spot now!
