Media and Graphic Design

The demand for creative digital content and people with skills in film, video, design and sound has never been greater. Our media and graphics courses give you the opportunity to develop skills in cinematography, sound recording and post-production editing across a range of genres or hone your creative skills in print and online design.

Graphic Design

If you’re excited by visual communications and want a career as a graphic designer, we have a high success rate of students progressing in to work within the creative industry.

Our expert tutors and specialist facilities, which include a large Mac suite and multiple graphic design studios, help you to develop your creativity and visually express your ideas. You’ll receive plenty of opportunities to work on live industry briefs set by employers, working for a real client, as well as receiving feedback on your design and presentation skills so you’re ready for further study at university or going into employment.

During your time here you’ll be able to produce your own short films, adverts, music videos and much more, to really build your portfolio. We have a strong record of students progressing into film, television, radio and animation and we’ll help you to work out which pathway you’d like to pursue and prepare you for further study or employment. At Chesterfield College, we have excellent facilities including a range of full-size video cameras, audio recording and lighting kits, camera stabilisers, Mac editing suits, and much more.

With the latest software and technology, you can really get to grips with the equipment you’ll be using if you continue on to a career in media. Take a look at the videos below to find out what makes the courses in Graphic Design and Media tick.

If you have a passion for music then our brand new music production courses are for you! Working closely with local music venues and support from the University of Derby, we have a new music area being built within Chesterfield College. From Level 1 to Level 3, our music courses will launch in September 2020.

All of our music courses offer a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of music performance and production such as composition, listening skills, the process of rehearsal, technology and delivery of a music performance and production as a collaborative activity. You will be prepared for the reality of the sector and progression and paths available to them.
