Engineering

As an engineer, you can expect to use your creativity and problem-solving skills to design new products and systems, and to come up with more effective ways of doing things. You could work with new materials and technology to design anything from sports equipment to buildings; you can even look at ways to efficiently grow food supplies for expanding populations and how to maintain and clean water supply. The possibilities in engineering are endless.

We offer several different branches of engineering for those who want to specialise in a particular area and our staff have the industry experience to help you develop the skills employers are looking for.

Lennon Columbine, Level 2 Mechanical Engineering…

“I had no experience with the subject at school. Engineering has always seemed interesting to me. It’s a great course, the tutors are really supportive and they all have industry experience, so they know what they are doing. We get treated like adults, which is a big positive for me. The tutors having industry experience was a massive selling point for me when I came to look around. They’ve all done completely different jobs, so there’s a wide range of skills and knowledge there. I also liked that the college has good technologies, facilities and resources for apprenticeships within the industry.”

We spoke to Harry Wilmott about his experience going from a student to a member of staff here at the Chesterfield College group in the Fabrication and Welding Department.

“I chose to pursue a career in teaching at Chesterfield College because I saw it as a great opportunity to help others gain valuable experience for their future careers. Having been a student at the college myself, I had enjoyed my time there and wanted to give back by supporting and guiding students on their educational journey.

During my time as a student at Chesterfield College, I received exceptional support from the dedicated and passionate lecturers. Their expertise and guidance not only helped me excel academically but also played a crucial role in securing a job and acquiring all the necessary skills to succeed in the professional world.”
