Solo hair design opened in 1993 by myself, Joanne Hopkinson. I trained as a YTS Apprentice for Daniel James Salon in Alfreton and attended Mackworth college and Fed 3 in Derby, this year 2026 I have been hairdressing 40 years. I have trained more than 20 apprentices; some have gone on to own their own salons and although I don’t take full time apprentices, I do take college placements whenever I can.
I do believe in giving back and feel that hairdressing is made up of so many different traits all wrapped up in one. It’s a feel-good job and can only be done with interest, compassion, kindness and a passion to create the best style and feeling for that individual client. I have a team of 3 plus stylists who I trained myself, they have been with me ranging from 6 to 20 years. I will never get tired of making people feel the best they can and doing hair the best I can, the key is growth!!! Always looking, watching, sourcing, you are never too old to learn new things, keeping it real!
