LGBT+

Many young people who attend College are still learning about who they are, and who they want to be in the future. Many will have questions about their sexual identity. This can be a confusing time for not only them, but also for family members who want to support their young person in the best possible way.

There is a designated page on the Chesterfield College website with information for our students regarding LBGT+ issues. On this page you can find links to support services as well as information that may help with supportive conversations.

Chesterfield College LGBT+ Inclusivity Consultation

On 21st January 2026, Chesterfield College’s Safeguarding Team facilitated an LGBT+ inclusivity consultation, engaging staff and students from across the college community.

The consultation provided an opportunity to reflect on current inclusive practices, listen to lived experiences, and explore ways to further strengthen support for LGBT+ individuals at the college. Participation and engagement were strong throughout the day, with meaningful conversations helping to shape ideas for future development.

This work reflects Chesterfield College’s ongoing commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected, and able to be themselves within our college community.

Chesterfield College is currently working towards Rainbow Accreditation to ensure it is a safe space for everyone.

At Chesterfield College we have a student group named ‘ True Colour Alliance’ who meet regularly with supervision from staff to discuss any LGBT+ related issues or questions, and to help the College staff reflect on our provision and support of LGBT+ students.

Derbyshire LGBT+ hold regular family group sessions in Chesterfield.  These are an opportunity to chat with like-minded people about similar themes and discussions. Please click to access;
