EHCP learners

If you have an EHCP, your Local Authority may send it to us after your annual review. This helps us to check that Chesterfield College is a good match for you. This is called a consultation. Sometimes we will get in touch with you for a visit at that point.

Transition Visits

Coming to college can feel like a really big step so please contact the SEND team to arrange a visit or two. Transition visits help you understand the challenges of college, what we can do to make it feel more comfortable and it will help you get ready for attending one day.

Applications

Find the course(s) for you on our website and then click ‘apply now’. You will be invited to an interview to check the course is a good match for your interests, goals and abilities.

Don’t forget to tick the disability boxes, even if you don’t have a diagnosis.

If you have an Education Health and Care Plan, please tick ‘EHCP’ on the application.

We will ask for your EHCP from the local authority. This helps us know about you before you start college and we can start putting the right kind of support in place.

Interviews

In your interview you will be asked about why you want to do the course, how school has been going and if you have any learning difficulties or differences. Please tell us about any exam access arrangements you have had and if you have, or might have a disability.

If you have an EHCP, a member of the SEND team would like to come along to your interview.

Please tell us any access needs you might have before the interview e.g. ground floor room, BSL signer etc.

Supported transport

It can take a long time to get transport sorted, so apply as soon as you know you are coming to Chesterfield College. Post-16 travel to school – Derbyshire County Council

Enrolment

This an agreement between college and you, that you are a member of college. It usually happens at the end of the summer holidays. You’ll be invited to enrolment if you’ve had a course offer.

Please check that you have ticked your disability on the enrolment form.

The SEND team will be at enrolment find out about your needs.

Please bring evidence of your diagnosis, as this will help us sort out exam access arrangements. Please remember that exam access arrangements don’t automatically carry over from school.
