Functional Skills English

It spells success.

This short course will help you learn the essential English skills for everyday situations and will give you a fully recognised qualification at level Entry level, Level 1 or Level 2. Develop expert speaking, listening and communication skills that you can apply to everyday life and the workplace. You will improve your understanding of the rules of writing, grammar and punctuation and also improve your reading skills. You will need to carry out a digital initial assessment before commencing the course and then you will work online using the CENTURY platform to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to pass the assessment at the end of the course.

A mixture of face-to-face sessions and online learning will take place weekly from 15:30-17:00 on a Wednesday. Some independent online learning is required as part of the course however, attendance is flexible and based on individual need.

This course is fully funded (FREE) to eligible students

Am I eligible?

  • You must currently live in England
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
  • You must be over the age of 19
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship
  • You must undertake an initial assessment to ensure you are suitable for the course you are interested in
  • You cannot have achieved a similar sector-based qualification at the same or higher level
