We are the hub for North East Derbyshire’s music education working with your local music venues, studios and nationwide professionals to help you get connected.

This is a professional creative qualification designed to harness the passion you have for music and give you the skills and experience of reaching others, showcasing your work to a professional standard.

The Level 2 Award and Diploma in Music Performance & Production is custom made by the music team in response to our cohort to deliver industry skills in the ever changing hybrid world of music.

The qualification allows you to progress onto a Level 3 creative qualification such as Music, Media, Programming, Networking, Games or Esports.

On the course you will introduction to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of music performance and production such as electronic music composition, enhancing listening skills, working towards live performances, rehearsals, using music technology in our brand new BBC level recording studio and working with other like-minded peers.

Course Structure

• Introduction to recording and job roles in music.

• Enhancing listening skills and electronic/live music composition.

• Studying musical genres – finding stylistic elements and composing in that style.

• Skills development for live performance and production.

• Final major project – research and development of your niche music study.

Entry Requirements

At interview you will need to show evidence of your music skills (compositions, music tech pieces or performances) and 4 GCSEs at grade 3 and above including maths and English. Most importantly – you must demonstrate a strong passion and interest in music and a commitment to industry placements. If you have not achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths you will study this as part of your programme.

Coursework, Tutor observation, Written reports, Class presentations, Website portfolio content, Practical work

Fees and funding

Free for Eligible 16-18 year olds. Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Progression

This course forms part of a progression route to our Level 3 music course as well as any path through our creative provision. Some of the roles you could progress to include: live sound engineer, recording studio engineer, music producer, songwriting, session musician, band and artist.
