The part time programme is scheduled to cover 4 units per year, each unit is worth 15 credits. 120 credits are required for the HNC. The 120 HNC credits are required as a pre-requisite for the HND which is a further 120 credits at level 5, the HND therefore requiring 240 credits in total. Full time programmes are delivered over one college year.

The remaining 5 “specialist” units are:

  • Unit 4008 – Mechanical Principles

  • Unit 4014 – Production Engineering for Manufacture
  • Unit 4017 – Quality and Process Improvement

Entry Requirements

Students who have completed level 3 Engineering qualifications and wish to progress will be interviewed prior to entry as the level 4 programme has a high level of maths and science content. External and mature applicants will also be interviewed to assess their maths and science capabilities although other qualifications such as A levels in maths and science are ideal. It is anticipated all applicants will be currently employed in the Engineering sector, ideally employed in one of the appropriate pathways of mechanical or Electrical.
