The Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing is designed for learners who are new to the industry and have little or no experience of hairdressing . The qualification provides the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a hairdressing assistant.

This qualification allows you to learn, develop and practice the skills required to assist with services such as colouring and lightening, perming, plaiting, twisting, shampooing, conditioning and blow drying hair, to develop effective working relationships and to assist with reception duties and the maintenance of work areas.

Course Structure

Key modules on this course include:

Blow-drying Women’s Hair, Assisting in Hairdressing Colouring Services, Assisting in Hairdressing Perming Services, Shampooing and Conditioning Techniques for Hair and Scalp, Styling Women’s Hair using Plaiting and Twisting Techniques.

Entry Requirements

Three GCSEs or E3 in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Industry.

Assessment methods

Unitised theory exams, practical summative assessments.

Fees and funding

Free for Eligible 16-18 year olds. Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Progression

Following this course you can progress into employment, Level 2 courses or Intermediate Apprenticeships.
