The ESOL course is for people who do not speak English as a first language. The ESOL course will help you with your reading, writing, and speaking in English. We offer courses for beginners as well as courses for students with more knowledge of English.

  • Our learners can access support from our Bursary scheme, as well as other cross-college services such as Careers & Guidance or Wellbeing support.
  • This course is based at Chesterfield College’s Infirmary Road Campus, S41 7NG.
  • This course has different starts dates in the year.
  • You will be invited for an interview before you enrol for this course. At the interview, you will complete a short English skills test. After the results of the test, you will discuss the different class options available to you.

Course Structure

In our classes, you will learn how to be independent at the doctor’s, buy a train ticket or ask for help in an official setting. We will support you with integrating into your local community and progressing into further education or employment.

Entry Requirements

You must have the right to remain in the UK (Biometric Residency Card, Pre-Settled/Settled Scheme, Asylum Seekers, Refugees, or any other type of visas). You don’t need any qualifications to be able to enrol onto one of our courses.

Three short exams including:, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening

Progression

At the end of each course, you will be encouraged to progress onto the next level of your qualification. There may also be the possibility to progress onto GCSE English Language, or other vocational courses across the college.
