A Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) is designed to help people develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to move into employment within a specific industry sector.

At Chesterfield College, we work in a unique three-way partnership with Jobcentre Plus, employers and our college to create structured training programmes that prepare candidates for real job opportunities. Each programme is tailored to the needs of the sector and employer, ensuring learners gain relevant skills that are valued in the workplace.

Through a SWAP, participants can:

  • Develop industry-specific skills and knowledge
  • Gain recognised qualifications where applicable
  • Improve employability skills, confidence, and workplace readiness
  • Learn from experienced tutors with industry expertise
  • Access genuine job opportunities within their chosen sector

A key benefit of our SWAP programmes is that learners who successfully complete the course are offered a guaranteed interview with an employer, providing a direct pathway into employment.

We work closely with employers to design and deliver training that meets workforce needs. By partnering with us through a SWAP, employers can:

  • Access a pool of trained and motivated candidates
  • Influence programme content to reflect industry requirements
  • Reduce recruitment and onboarding costs
  • Support local people into sustainable employment

If your organisation is interested in becoming a SWAP partner, we’d be happy to discuss how we can create a tailored programme to meet your recruitment needs.
