13 weeks, one evening a week on a Thursday for three hours 530pm-830pm
Starting week commencing 21/11/24.

This is a qualification that enables you to develop basic hand-skills in plumbing to develop either DIY skills or before progressing on to study plumbing in more detail. All the units develop your practical skills and enable you to demonstrate your ability to complete common tasks. You will learn tasks such as bending and jointing copper pipes, connecting pipes and fittings to appliances and using a variety of fittings.

This qualification prepares you to progress into further learning and training in construction. You may wish to consider progressing to one of the following qualifications:

· City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills (multi-skilled)
· City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing Studies

Course Structure

Unit 010 Working with non-manipulative fittings

This unit will teach you to:

• identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to preparing and jointing copper pipes with non manipulative fittings
• identify materials required to prepare and joint copper pipes with non-manipulative fittings
• identify tools and equipment required to prepare and joint copper pipes with compression fittings
• state the process required to prepare and fit copper pipes with compression fittings
• state the health and safety risks and hazards related to cutting copper pipes and using compression fittings.

To pass the unit you will complete an assessment where you will construct a copper framework using non-manipulative fittings.

Unit 129 Connecting pipes and fittings to appliances

This unit will teach you to:

• identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to connecting pipes and fittings to appliances
• identify materials required to connect pipes and fittings to appliances
• identify tools and equipment required to connect pipes and fittings to appliances
• state types of fittings and pipe work
• state the process required to connect pipes and fittings to appliances
• state the health and safety risks and hazards related to connecting pipes and fittings to appliances.

To pass the unit you will complete an assessment to install and connect the hot and cold water pipework and the waste system to either a kitchen sink or a basin

Unit 101 Introduction to health and safety in construction

This unit will teach you to:

• state the importance of health and safety in the construction industry
• state the roles of Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
• state the main regulations covered under the Health and Safety act 1974
• state the responsibilities of individuals within the construction industry

To pass the unit you will complete an assessment to show your understanding.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification – anyone 16 or above wishing to develop hand-skills in plumbing.
