Progression

On a successful completion, apprentices will be eligible for the following job roles or further studies.

  • Level 6 Electronic/Electrical Technical Support Engineer Apprenticeship
  • Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Engineering

You could also progress into employment in the following job roles:

  • Mechatronics Technician
  • Multi-skilled Site Maintenance Technician
  • Engineering Technician
  • Mechatronics Engineer & Toolmaker

Multi-skilled mechatronics maintenance technicians carry out a broad range of activities which may include installation, testing, fault finding, rectification, modifications and the on-going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines. You will also complete documentation, handover work, set up their work area and are required to be competent in safe engineering practices for their own safety and those around them. You may be required to work shifts, to work at height and in confined spaces, as well as dealing with equipment which may contain high voltages, high pressures, ionising radiation and other hazards.

Throughout the apprenticeship, the apprentice is supported by their work-based tutor, employer mentor and class-based tutor to ensure that they are progressing at the right pace and developing the skills and knowledge expected.

This apprenticeship requires you to attend 1 day a week at our Derby campus.

Off the job training

Every apprenticeship includes off-the-job training – equivalent to one day per week. This takes place during time normally spent at work but does not include the usual daily duties and responsibilities carried out as part of their normal role. It can consist of work and tasks ranging from projects, lectures and seminars to day release, blended learning and training to use specialist equipment.

It can form part of regular weekly sessions or be combined for larger blocks of time, depending on the approach that works best for the employer.

Qualifications Gained

The apprentice will work towards the L3 Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard as well as the Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
