Duration: 40 months. Time-scales may vary depending on occupational role and/or prior relevant qualifications/ experience and Assessment of Prior Learning and Knowledge (APL/K) opportunities.
- Individual employers will set the criteria for their apprenticeships.
- Typically candidates will need to have four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths.

On a successful completion, apprentices will be eligible for the following job roles or further studies.

Off-the-job training
Every apprenticeship includes off-the-job training – equivalent to one day per week. This takes place during time normally spent at work but does not include the usual daily duties and responsibilities carried out as part of their normal role. It can consist of work and tasks ranging from projects, lectures and seminars to day release, blended learning and training to use specialist equipment.
It can form part of regular weekly sessions or be combined for larger blocks of time, depending on the approach that works best for the employer.
Qualifications gained
In addition to the Level 3 Engineering apprenticeship, the apprentice will also have achieved the following by the end of the apprenticeship:
- An employer approved Level 2 Foundation Competence qualification
- An employer approved Level 3 Development Competence qualification
- An employer approved Level 3 Development Technical Knowledge qualification
