LEVEL 2 BRICKLAYER

Duration: 24 months plus 3 months End Point Assessment.

Entry requirements

Candidates will typically hold GCSE grades D/3 in Maths and English.

You will need to sit the exams for Functional Skills L2 prior to your End Point Assessment (EPA) in Maths and English if you do not have an exemption or equivalent grade.

Progression

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you could progress onto further qualifications or study such as:

The construction sector is the driving force behind the UK economy, employing three million people. Not only that, but the construction industry is also central to delivering the homes, schools, hospitals, energy and transport infrastructure our society demands. A career in the construction industry is like no other. Bricklaying is a core function within the construction sector, particularly the house building sector. The government has a target to build significantly more new homes over the coming years and therefore the demand for bricklayers has never been higher.

Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures e.g. chimney stacks. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restoration projects. A bricklayer may work one-on-one or as part of team. This apprenticeship will be suitable for school leavers or those wishing to formalise their skills within the bricklaying trade or individuals looking to broaden their knowledge within the construction sector.

Off-the-job training

Every apprenticeship must include off-the-job training – equivalent to one day per week. This takes place during time normally spent at work but does not include the usual daily duties and responsibilities carried out as part of their normal role. It can consist of work and tasks ranging from projects, lectures and seminars to day release, blended learning and training to use specialist equipment.

It can form part of regular weekly sessions or be combined for larger blocks of time, depending on the approach that works best for the employer.

Delivery plan and apprentice progression

Throughout the apprenticeship, the apprentice is supported by their work-based tutor, employer mentor and class-based tutor to ensure that they are progressing at the right pace and developing the skills and knowledge expected.
