There are many services available, including the Armed Services, HM Customs and Excise, police, fire service etc., and each requires a range of skills such as; physical fitness, communication, being a team player, decision-making, and resilience amongst others.

Level 1 Introduction to Vocational Studies

The Level 1 programme provides a good insight into both the Sports and Public Service sectors. The course has a wide range of units in which you can explore and develop your skills and knowledge across both areas. You will benefit from working with teaching staff that have a vast range of experience within both sports and public services. The course has been designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to make the correct choices for yourself to progress into the next stage of your aspirational journey.

Level 2 Entry to Uniformed Services

This Level 2 Entry into Uniformed Public Service course provides the ideal stepping stone into a whole range of exciting careers within the public sector, including the Armed Services, Prison and Probation Services as well as the Police Service. You will benefit from the expertise of teachers who also have backgrounds in these services. Our strong links with the Armed Services enable you to take part in relevant visits and activities during your course, giving you valuable insight into the kind of skills and attributes you will need to develop, in order to progress into your chosen career might include.

Level 3 Entry to Uniformed Services

On this course, you’ll have the opportunity to go on an educational residential that resembles life in a Uniformed Service. You’ll also experience career talks, and get access to visiting speakers from industry to update your knowledge and there will be opportunities to volunteer with the Uniformed Services to develop the skills needed for employment.

You will get the opportunity to research some of the most interesting and relevant subjects and issues on the national and international agenda and gain an insight into the entry requirements and selection processes required for entry into all of the main emergency services. Your lessons will be taught by tutors who have served across a range of public services who will enable you to understand your subjects at an operational level to bring each element to life using real-life examples.

HNC in Public Services

In your first year, you will complete our HNC in Public Services. This course covers a range of units that will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the public sector and services, structures of the organisations, mental health impacts on the sector, and a wide range of topical issues happening in the country and the world today. Our units that delve into terrorism, criminal behaviour and legal systems, will provide you with the foundations to build on as you progress higher

Level 5 in Public Services

Go on to study our level 5 course in public services. 

The Higher National Diploma (Level 5 HND) is the second year towards achieving your undergraduate degree. 

One of the main aims of this course is to give you the skills to develop a critical understanding of the subjects. We create an environment where stimulating discussion and intellectual development can take place. You will get the opportunity to research and debate some of the most interesting and pertinent issues on the national and international agenda. 

You are not just here to learn about the subject, you are here to engage with it too. 

The HND in Public Services covers a range of units that will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the main reasons people commit crimes, criminal behaviour, law and justice and emergency planning, as well as gaining an in-depth knowledge of the public sector. The course will give you the time-management, team membership and leadership skills required for success and future employment in the public services professions. 

What careers are available in the public service sector? 

Public Services can lead to a wide range of roles including Youth work, Victim support, Community Safety, Police Force, Health administration jobs, Private Security, Fire Services and so much more.
