Engineering and Construction Industry Week – May 2023

We are celebrating the Construction and Engineering Industry here at Chesterfield College this week! We have had industry professionals exhibit at our college over the last two days (23-24/5/23). They have been talking to students about the skill gaps in the industry, current career opportunities and progression within their fields. It was great chatting with some employers about their roles, company values and what skills they want to fill within their businesses. They all share some great advice about getting into the industry and some insights on the current industry’s wants and needs. Worcester Bosch Worcester Bosch spoke to us about the qualifications you need to join them and how the “world is your oyster” once you have those recognised qualifications. They went into detail about the various specialisms you could go into with a focus on renewable energies and technologies.   Construction and engineering industry week 2023 NIBE are a Swedish heat pump manufacturer. They talk about the positive impact of heat pumps on the environment. The company is here today because they are looking for Higher Level Apprentices in building services to join them and hopefully progress into full-time positions. Henry boots construction Paddy Longford, a recent graduate business development manager spoke to us from Henry Boot Construction. Paddy was at the event to talk to the students about the exciting roles within the industry. They explain the qualifications students need to get into professional construction job roles. “There’s absolutely loads of jobs in the industry”.   EPC UK EPC UK is an influential and leading force in their industry. They manufacture and detonate explosives in the quarrying sector. 80% of explosives in the UK are manufactured at their facilities in Alfreton, just down the road from Chesterfield. They are largely used in civil applications such as quarrying. The rock is then used to make roads, hospitals and houses etc.   Talentview is a free government platform which helps match employers with skilled students and young people who are looking for their first job, apprenticeship or work experience in the industry.  Employers advertise their current vacancies for free on the platform and once students register, they upload their CVs, certificates and skills. The aim is to help get the right person with the right skills into the right job with no middleman involved.   Spectrum Safety is one of the UK’s leading specialist suppliers of workplace safety-related products, services and solutions. They currently supply Chesterfield College, along with huge companies such as Amazon. Over the years, Spectrum has also taken on apprentices through Chesterfield College in a range of roles at the company.
