Empowered: The Performing Arts Winter Showcase and a visit to Derbyshire Police HQ!
13 December 2024It’s been a busy week at College as our students take a trip to visit Derbyshire Police HQ, perform in their first Winter Showcase and celebrate the festive fun with Christmas Jumper Day!
Public Services
Our Public Services students recently visited the Derbyshire Police HQ Joint Training Centre. The visit included informative talks from current officers on various specialisations such as Crime Scene Investigating, Armed Response, Contact Management, and the Motorcycle Team. Students were particularly excited to be the first guests to experience the armed response firing range, where they familiarised themselves with the resources and equipment used by the team.
A highlight of the day was a decision-making exercise that emphasized the importance of good observational skills and critical thinking. The students also had the opportunity to meet with the fire service, learning about their varied roles and exploring a fire engine.
One student confirmed their career choice, stating, “I will definitely join next year.” Another student, inspired by the experience, is now motivated to improve their math grade to meet police application requirements.
Performing Arts
This week Performing Arts students came together to put on a number of performances for fellow students, family, friends and anyone else who wanted to come along. Our UAL Level 2 students had their winter showcase, which consisted of a variety of performances with a selection of dance and drama and our Level 1 Creative Industries group did a brand new retelling of Darkwood Manor.
Both performances were amazing and gave students the chance to showcase all of the hard work they’ve done so far in this academic year. A huge well done to all those taking part!
Christmas Jumper Day
On Thursday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day across the College, so many of our staff and students got involved and it was so amazing to see Christmas jumpers around College all day. Our two therapy dogs, Mabel and Ozzy also got involved and wore their own little Christmas jumpers! If you got involved and didn’t get a chance to donate on the day, or you would just like to donate, please do so here.
Xmas Safety Day
On Wednesday our safeguarding hosted their annual ‘Xmas Safety Day’ event, which focuses on giving students the information they need to be keeping themselves safe and well over the holiday break.
It was so amazing to see all of our students come together to join in on the festive fun, tunes, activities and even win some prizes. Our Hair and Beauty students were also doing festive face-painting for everyone and at 12pm, our Performing Arts students came down to perform a variety of Christmas songs. Thank you to everyone who came and all those involved in making it a festive and fun-filled event!
Coming up
As the term comes to an end, we have an exciting last week of events including our Music Production winter showcase, a charity football game, the annual Performing Arts pantomime and so much more to look forward to!
