Empowered: Competing in the Taekwon-do World Cup and Staff Nominations!

As we get closer to the Christmas break there are so many exciting things happening around the College to bring an end to the term. This week students have met industry professionals, sang Christmas carols over lunch and celebrated the success of our student who took part in the Taekwon-do World Cup!

Hair and Beauty

Our Hair and Beauty students had an industry day this week, which included a guest talk from Helena Walker, a fully qualified international makeup artist from Nottinghamshire. She gave two sessions to our students, in which she spoke about the entirety of her career journey. 

Helena started out as an international horse groom but after a number of years she decided to try something new and become a qualified makeup artist, since then she has been building a thriving beauty business, specifically dedicating her career to helping others feel confident and beautiful. In addition to working with clients and brands internationally she also hosts makeup masterclasses and is passionate about education. 

She not only talked to our students about the art of makeup but also key business fundamentals, social media and branding tips, offering insights into building a successful career, the importance of following your passion, and how taking risks and giving back can lead to meaningful success. This was an incredibly insightful lesson for our students and they loved meeting a professional in the industry and got the opportunity to speak with her after the session.

Hospitality and Professional Cookery and Performing Arts

Throughout the week, our Performing Arts students have been teaming up with our Hospitality and Professional Cookery students to make sure that guests could enjoy a festive Christmas lunch. Our guests were able to enjoy an incredible meal prepared and served by our Hospitality and Professional Cookery students, all whilst our Performing Arts students stood by the bar to sing well known Christmas songs and provide entertainment for all those that came to enjoy a festive lunch!

It was so amazing to see all the students come together to create an enjoyable festive environment for all of those dining at Taste Restaurant. If you haven’t yet, take a look at what upcoming offers they have on for themed dinners, lunches and events throughout the year.

Staff Nominations

As we get into the Christmas spirit and 2024 comes to an end, we would like to celebrate the staff that make Chesterfield College the wonderful organisation that it is. That’s why we’re asking students to nominate a staff member that has made a real difference to their learning this year. It could be offering support in lessons, a friendly smile in the canteen or helping them through the hallways. There are so many things that can make a student’s time at College special and we’d love to hear all about it.

The winning member of staff will be given a special Christmas thank you gift before the end of term. All submissions need to be sent by Wednesday 18th of December by 11am. If you have been a student at any point in 2024 and would like to nominate please do so here.

Taekwon-do World Cup

We are so excited to be able to celebrate the success of one of our students who gained an incredible achievement over the recent half term. Faye Hubbuck competed for Team GB at the ITF Taekwon-do World Cup 2024 which was held in Mar-Del Plata, Argentina.

Faye did great at the competition and only just missed out on 3^rd place, which is a huge achievement and we are incredibly proud of her. Well done Faye!

Printmaking Workshops

We’re so excited to announce the launch of our new bookable printmaking workshops, running from 10am – 2pm on Tuesdays, which have been designed for local schools to introduce them to various art and design activities. They can choose from one of three  workshops, including:

• Monotype Taster Workshop
• Intaglio Drypoint Taster Workshop
• Relief Collagraph Taster Workshops
