Looked After Students and Young Adults Leaving Care

Looked after students, are children under the age of 18 that are under the care of their local authority and young adults leaving care are over 18 years old.  Our aim is to ensure that our looked after students and young adults leaving care have the very best chance to succeed, no matter their circumstances.

Chesterfield College understands that there are unique challenges and barriers that looked after students and young adults leaving care face on a daily basis.  We want to reassure students and apprentices that support is available throughout their learner journey, including a supportive transition, a dedicated member of the Wellbeing Team to offer additional or extra support when needed and a bursary for financial support.

Working closely with Social Care, Foster Families, Leaving Care Teams, and other support professionals we aim to deliver a consistent care and education provision, ensuring a supportive, pro-active, multi-agency approach in all interactions.  For looked after students we will maintain the post-16 Personal Education and Training Plan and endeavour to keep everyone updated with progress throughout the year.

We want our looked after students and young adults leaving care to have the best chance to grow, progress and succeed academically, emotionally, physically and emotionally.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you prior to starting your course to ensure that your support needs are in place and offer a tour around the campus, to ensure the best possible preparation for college life.

Please contact the Wellbeing Team 01246 500500 ext. 1688 to discuss options further.
