Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is an illegal, harmful practice and a form of child abuse and violence against women and girls. It is defined as ‘the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It’s also known as female circumcision or cutting. There is no medical benefit to having the procedure and it can often cause severe damage to the girl’s mental and physical health.

If you or someone you know has been abused or subject to this type of abuse, you can contact the Safeguarding Team at Chesterfield college on 01246 500688 or email ccsafe@chesterfield.ac.uk.
