Get involved before you start college

Students will be introduced to the programme before they start at college. Over the summer they will go through a transition programme that will allow them to get to grip with things and ease any anxiety before starting term.

This includes getting to know others, understanding the support available to help learning, knowing your timetable, setting clear expectations and what to expect on the first day of term.

After this we will go through the induction programme where we cover study skills, setting a learning plan with clear starting points, Freshers Fair and enrichment activities and keeping safe in the community and on campus.

Term 1

This programmes duration is 13 weeks.

Empower your learning journey – course/college induction programme – getting to know your learning environment, support available and how to access, attendance incentives, study skills, Freshers Fair and enrichment activities

Empower your job prospects – setting a learning plan with clear starting points

Empower your wellbeing and resilience – health and safety, understanding safeguarding risks (including Prevent related) and how to report concerns, ACT for Youth (Run, Hide, Tell)

Empower your digital skills – digital wellbeing, digital capabilities (skills needed for work and life), cybersecurity, digital communications (emails, professional and personal social medias, etc.), Microsoft functions, Green Skills including the impact of AI on sustainability, digital technology for inclusivity and accessibility

Empower your citizenship and social action skills – introducing British Values, student voice and volunteering opportunities

Term 2

This programmes duration is 11 weeks.

Empower your inclusivity – understanding your rights in employment in line with protected characteristics, LGBTQ+ alliance, valuing diversity

Empower your citizenship and social action skills – British Values projects 1 and 2, environmental awareness and sustainability

Empower your life skills – Owning and maintaining a car, living independently, focus on you – hygiene, sleep hygiene, physical fitness, healthy eating, alcohol consumption, smoking and vaping, lifestyle choices, communication and listening skills, negotiation skills, problem solving

Term 3

This programmes duration is 11 weeks.

Empower your citizenship and social action skills – British Values projects 3 and 4, Community Save a Life Scheme

Empower your money management skills – Bank accounts, understanding payslips, understanding employment tax, managing money and debt, gambling, budgeting for independent living, money saving tips

  • Summer Transition Programme – building resilience for vulnerable students to help them settle well into the college at the start of term
  • Enrolment Engagement Programme – getting to know others, becoming enrolled, understanding support available to help in learning, knowing your timetable, setting clear expectations, what to expect on the first day of term
  • Induction Programme – getting to know your learning environment, support available and how to access, attendance incentives, study skills, setting a learning plan with clear starting points, Freshers Fair and enrichment activities, keeping safe

Career and Employability Programmes including:

  • Mapping out your career plan / learning journey
  • CV writing / writing good job applications
  • Developing interview techniques with employers
  • Customer service and presentation skills / interpersonal skills
  • Work experience and work-related experience opportunities
  • Understanding progression into Higher Education and Student Finance
  • Exploring opportunities into apprenticeships
  • Access to Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) to help understand available jobs, levels of responsibility, salaries, geography of where they are most popular, qualification routes and relevant types of experience

Safeguarding Programme including:
