Bridging the Disability Employment Gap – Be part of the change!

Disabled people experience a wide range of barriers securing employment. The unemployment rate for disabled people is still 30% higher than it is for non-disabled people, and we don’t want our students to be one of those numbers.

We’re committed to creating and developing inclusive opportunities for every single student and Apprentice here at Chesterfield College.  Too many talented individuals with disabilities face unnecessary barriers to work experience and employment and we believe it’s time for that to change!

What we are doing

  • Delivering an ambitious and exciting curriculum to our students with learning difficulties and neurodivergent conditions, breaking down barriers to learning.
  • Tailored employability support preparing young people for adulthood, homing in on independent living, communication, problem solving and employability skills.
  • Building student confidence
  • Enhancing our careers information, advice and guidance offer – connecting more students than ever with employers and organisations who can offer a broad range of progression opportunities.
  • Employer engagement and training – offering guidance on inclusive recruitment practices, reasonable adjustments and creating disability-confident environments for our students to thrive in.
