Course Overview

The HN Engineering course has been designed to enable direct progression to a full honours degree course upon successful completion. You will have the opportunity to investigate 3D printing, mechatronics, Stirling engines, drone technology, and advanced mathematics relevant to engineering.

You can opt to pursue a specialist pathway in mechanical, electrical/electronic or general engineering for the certificate and the diploma part of the qualification. The HN is split into two elements – the certificate and the diploma.

Course Content

Modules will include;

  • Unit 1 – Engineering Design
  • Unit 2 – Engineering Mathematics
  • Unit 3 – Engineering Science
  • Unit 4 – Managing a Professional Engineering Project (Pearson set theme)
  • Unit 13 – Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
  • Unit 8 – Mechanical Principles
  • Unit 11 – Fluid Mechanics
  • Unit 79 – CAD for Engineering

Entry Requirements

A Level 3 Engineering qualification that is either BTEC or EAL where you have completed electrical principles, Engineering Science and Engineering maths units. English and maths (grade C/4 or above at GCSE or Level 2 equivalent). Mature students with relevant experience will also be considered.

Progression

Successful completion of the HNC in Engineering can lead to a wide range of roles such as Mechanical engineer, Maintenance engineer. You could also choose to study an extra year to ‘top-up’ your qualification by completing a level 5 HND or progress onto a degree programme.
