Course Overview

Kickstart is an introductory programme that supports young people who are anxious about starting college or not quite ready for the big step. This may be because they have missed out on some stages of school or they have been on a tailor made pogramme such as home education.

This programme aims to develop resilience and commitment to education, whilst working towards vocational programme entry requirements.

Students will work on their personal development, English, maths and employability. Students will be able to have visits and taster sessions in vocational areas to help them decide what to study next.

For example, students can sample:

  • Creative Studies
  • Business
  • Care
  • Catering
  • Construction
  • Hair & Beauty
  • Sport/Public Services
  • Travel

All students will have a personal tutor who provides holistic care under our ASPIRE programme.

This is a flexible course, tailored to the students needs. It can be full or part time.

Course Content

Kickstart starts with a two-week welcome induction programme to help you settle in and to help us get things the right level for you.

Students will be supported to work on personal targets . We will help you to feel confident whilst also taking on new challenges so that you can progress towards your goals.

  • Enrichment activities

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for those aged 16-19 (or up to 24 if they have an EHCP). It is suited to students who find education challenging due to:

  • Anxiety or social issues
  • Missing large parts of previous education
  • Not being ready to study a vocational or academic course
  • Unable to study full time

It is suited to students who can:

  • Behave safety
  • Be kind to others

  • Try their best
  • Try to use coping skills
  • Try to be organised

Assessment Methods

  • Communication with you and observation of your skills
  • Portfolio building
  • Examinations in GCSE Maths and English

Progression

Progression on completion of the course will depend upon individual performance, attitude and attendance with successful students being offered an opportunity to transition to an appropriate vocational programme.
