YOUNG CARERS

At Chesterfield College, we understand that some of our students and apprentices will be carers. Carers have a responsibility to care for parents, siblings, or other relatives who are unwell, disabled, or are otherwise in need of support or supervision.

We appreciate that taking care of a loved one can take time, effort and commitment, which may affect your studies and the Wellbeing Team will support you throughout your learner journey.

The Chesterfield College Group is committed to ensuring carers have the best possible chance to succeed, regardless of circumstances.

Support

If you are responsible for providing unpaid care to a family member, partner or friend, you may be able to receive extra support during your studies. This includes financial help, such as a bursary, support with managing your workload and deadlines, and help with your own health and wellbeing;

  • Academic Support – This could include flexible or negotiable deadlines, help with managing workload, or priority access to academic or career opportunities. Your Personal Tutor and LEAP Mentor can help with support and guidance around your academic studies.
  • Financial Support – You may be eligible for bursaries; grants or other financial support.
  • Health and Wellbeing Support – Our dedicated Wellbeing Team can offer a range of support, including Counselling, Early Help, and Safeguarding support. The Wellbeing Hub is a bespoke area where you can access a quiet space to speak us about your concerns or it may be that you just need to re-charge and reflect in a safe space.

You can also speak to your Personal Tutor or LEAP Mentor for support and guidance.

If you would like further information on the support available in college, please call the Wellbeing Team on 01246 500500 ext. 1688.
