Self-harm, Eating Disorders and Suicidal Thoughts

If you are concerned about the immediate risk of harm to anyone, please seek medical advice by calling 999 in an emergency or contacting 111 so speak to a member of the NHS.

If your concern is not urgent but you would still like advice regarding a young person who may be self- harming, struggling with eating or have suggested that they have thoughts to end their life they please see the following links fur further guidance. Self- harm and eating disorders can often be a way of taking control and managing difficult feelings. If may be difficult for anyone who is not going though those emotions to understand why the young person needs to do this. Please see the following for guidance;

If a young person shares with you that they have thoughts of ending their life and are they may be at imminent risk, please call 999. If they share that they have thoughts but are not actively planning to harm themselves, please do let the Safeguarding Team know as soon as possible so that support can be put in place and their wellbeing can be monitored. If your child shares information with you regarding a friend or peer that has implied they want to take their own life, please share that with us immediately so that protective action can be taken.
