Everyone of us has mental health needs and these can affect emotional, physical, psychological and social wellbeing. Stress and Anxiety
Everyone of us has mental health needs and these can affect emotional, physical, psychological and social wellbeing. Students at College are faced with new challenges such as; academic pressures, new social circles, changes in routine, uncertainty about the future etc. These can lead to anxiety and stress. Stress can be a normal part of life, but at times, these issues can become more of a concern.
If a young person is struggling with their mental health, they may need adjustments or support, either temporarily or longer-term. They may be experiencing mental health issues that need medical support or supervision, and this may escalate with the added pressures of College life.
It may be that you as the Parent/ Carer, or another family member is the one struggling with mental health and you would like guidance on how to discuss this sensitively and appropriately with your child.
Please see the Wellbeing and Resilience page on the college website for further information.
In College
Students will have a Personal Tutor and a Personal Development Coach. These will be the first points of contact for any worries or concerns they may have. The Personal Development Coach can offer support for mental health issues and meet with them regularly to review.Should the Tutor or Personal Development Coach feel that Safeguarding support is needed they will pass this on to the Safeguarding Team.
The SEND or Safeguarding Team can supply an Adjustments Permit or Learner Inclusion Plan if appropriate to allow the student to have adjustments such as time out from lessons or wearing their hood up in class.
The Wellbeing Hub in South Block is a quiet space where students can go to self-regulate and to take some time out before returning back to lessons.
