19+ Adult Bursary and Advanced Learner Loan Bursary 

If you are aged 19+ and your household income is below £30,000 you may be eligible for help with kit/equipment, uniform and travel.  

 If your household income is between £30,000 and £40,000, you may be eligible for help with travel only. 

 To be eligible you must be: 

  • Aged 19 or over on 31st August 
  • In receipt of an individual (if living alone, with parents, or with friends/flatmates/other relatives) or household (if living with a spouse/partner) income of £30,000 or less. 
  • Receive Income Support, Income Based JSA, Employment Support Allowance, Universal Credit  

What you will receive 

Please Note: Bursary funds are limited and are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

If your household income is below £30,000 you will be entitled to the following: 

  • Travel to and from college which is usually in the form of a Stagecoach Travel Pass or a cash contribution if you are unable to access a Stagecoach bus route (only eligible if you live more than 2 miles away from College) 
  • Any essential equipment associated with your course e.g. uniform, kits, materials  
  • Support with costs associated with any educational trips 
  • Discretionary cash grant payments, subject to meeting minimum standards for attendance, targets, and progress, up to a maximum of £150 payable in three instalments at the beginning of each term

If your household income is between £30,000 and £40,000 you will be entitled to the following: 

  • Travel to and from college which is usually in the form of a Stagecoach Travel Pass or a cash contribution if you are unable to access a Stagecoach bus route (only eligible if you live more than 2 miles away from College) 

Proof of household income (wages/benefits) will be required as part of the application process.  

Childcare Costs 

Students claiming discretionary support maybe be eligible for support with childcare costs.  This is only available to students 20 or over on the start date of their course. Students can claim support with childcare costs up to a maximum of £2,500 per academic year, per child over the duration of a 35-week study programme.  

Where students reach the maximum £2,500 award cap before the end of their programme, subject to necessary funds being available, further financial support may be provided to cover childcare costs. Where a study programme is shorter than 35 weeks, this will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. 

Students aged 19 or under can claim childcare support through the Government’s Care to Learn scheme.
