Tim's assessor qualification has helped to get his dream job
Tim Curbbun, is a qualified beauty therapist and media make-up artist who worked on a beauty counter in a department store for several years and in a salon as an apprentice. He had always dreamt of teaching but he knew that university wasn’t for him. His college tutors and employers spotted his potential for supporting other learners and suggested he could have a successful career as an assessor with the right qualifications.
Inspired by his college experience and the support he got to achieve his qualification he realised he could combine his beauty skills with a teaching career. He started an assessor course at Chesterfield College and is now helping other students and apprentices to start their career in the beauty industry.
Tim has taken to his assessor role with enthusiasm. He has built on his customer service and management experience, providing employers with continual professional development training and shortlisting learners for jobs prior to salon interview. He has made a big impact in the college and salon owners have remarked on the high standard of learners he has put forward.
Tim says he has a passion for supporting people, "The beauty therapy industry has always been my interest and passion, but I wanted to take it further and make a difference to people’s lives. It is inspirational to see the difference you can make to students by supporting them in the right way. I love to see the transformation from student to confident and capable beauty therapist.
“As a male in the beauty industry, there have been many challenges, however the support and guidance of friends, family members, employers and the staff at Chesterfield College mean I’m now able to turn my qualifications into a teaching career.”
