January is a time to reflect and celebrate our highlights from 2023. The whole Chesterfield College Group had a fantastic year full of new developments and achievements. We won’t be able to talk about them all but here is a few of our highlights from the year. What a year it was!
Earlier this year, our Taste Restaurant underwent an amazing refurbishment including a brand new industry-functioning bar, new lighting and wall panelling to create a modern environment for our customers and students.
Taste Restaurant and Conservatory are both operated by college students under the watchful eye of their tutors.
Running these facilities gives learners the experience of working in a commercial environment, delivering high-quality food and service to paying customers, and gaining the knowledge required for a successful career in the catering and hospitality industry.

This year, our Beauty Team secured “Gold College of Excellence” status from @Ragdale Hall Spa, who were voted “Best Destination Spa” at the Good Spa Awards 2023.
They acknowledged that our students are “taught Beauty Therapy skills to a high standard”, receive “consistent communication and support from tutors regarding events, visits and talks” and are “excellent candidates for work experience”.
Our L2 and L3 Beauty Therapy students completed workshops with Faz Rajput.
As a college, we have worked with Ragdale Hall Spa this past academic year, supporting our students through career talks, work experience and, for some, the start of their career journey.
Due to the fabulous interaction from across the college, earlier this year, we won 1st place for “Number of Staff Pledges” and 4th place for “Number of Student Pledges” internationally in the SDG Teach In.
The SDG Teach In is a campaign to put the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and therefore sustainability, at the heart of all stages of education. This annual campaign calls upon educators to include the SDGS within their teaching, learning and assessment during the campaign (and beyond!).

Earlier this year, after a record number of sign-ups from our staff and students, Nick Johnson from the Community Save a Life Scheme, visited Chesterfield College to celebrate the fantastic uptake.
Nick was astonished by the number of staff and students who got involved – “The support and interest from the college has been incredible.”

This year we held our college-wide Sustainability Fair. The engagement and knowledge from students and the effort and commitment demonstrated by staff made it a day for us all to feel incredibly proud!
The day included everything from talking to students about reusing coffee grounds and composting for household gardening to discussing sustainable beauty products and methods.
Our A Level students had lots to celebrate this year after receiving their results. It was great speaking to the students about their results and progression routes.
From University to Higher Apprenticeships or employment and taking time out to figure things out, we are so proud of all of our students.
Throughout 2023, we helped to inspire futures and change lives, including adult learner David.
David came in to thank his tutor Karen for helping him gain his English GCSE at 53. David is proof that it is never too late to learn something new and make a change.
We’re so happy to have helped David on his journey and tutors are always moved when they receive such lovely feedback.
