A Level Results Day Celebrations 2023

Our A Level students have lots to celebrate this afternoon after receiving their results. It was great speaking to the students about their results and progression routes. A massive weight has been taken off their shoulders and they can now enjoy the rest of their summer. From University to Higher Apprenticeships or employment and taking time out to figure things out, we are so proud of all of our students.

Lisa France, Criminology Lecturer and Sixth Form Curriculum manager said, “It was amazing seeing some of our learners within A-levels opening their results today. All of our students have worked incredibly hard this year and faced the challenge of pre-covid grade boundaries. Many of our students have achieved their university placements, some going through clearing, others moving to apprenticeships and others happily taking some well-deserved “time off” (gap year). We mostly had tears of sheer happiness and many smiling members of staff where students left us with huge “thanks” and “good-byes”.”

We spoke to Ewan Beresford at the end of last year. He told us about how he wanted to train to become a primary teacher, but it all depended on the grades next year. We are over the moon that Ewan’s hard work has paid off and he is now going to his first-choice university.

Ewan said, “I was very nervous waiting for my email to find out whether I had been accepted into my first choice. It’s been a tough year, but my tutors have been great. I can’t wait to go but it’s insane to think college is over.”

Ewan also spoke to Greatest Hits Radio Derbyshire this morning about his results, along with a few other students. It was great to spread the word and celebrate the students from our Sixth Form here at Chesterfield College.

Charley Godbert studied Law, Psychology and Criminology. She achieved the grades she wanted and got a place at university to study Law.

Charlie told us, “I’ve done pretty well. I got a distinction in Law which is just what I wanted. I got a C in Criminology which I am happy with. Plus, I got into university to study Law. I was really nervous walking into the room, I’m glad I can now relax.”

Clea Kapadia collected her results this morning before returning back to her work experience at a law firm.

“I got into university with my grades, however, I want to do a degree apprenticeship at the law firm I am currently working at. I have been doing work experience there for the past few weeks. The end goal is to be a lawyer. The degree apprenticeship is still with the same university I got into; I will just be working whilst gaining my qualifications. The apprenticeship will take me all the way up to my solicitor’s qualification exam. I was really nervous about today, so I am glad everything is moving in the right direction.”

Elise Power couldn’t stop smiling as she read her results. Elise studied Criminology, Philosophy and Psychology and will be starting university this year.

Elise said, “I got the grades I wanted! I have been accepted into the university I wanted to go to. I am very excited and off to celebrate now.”

Jake Charlesworth achieved the grades he was hoping for. He now has to decide what career route to take next.

Jake explained, “I got into Derby University to study Business Management and Finance. I am off to two parties tonight to celebrate.

I am currently debating whether or not to study at the Open University. I am sure what I want to do and It allows me to work and pay off my degree whilst studying. I just need to decide whether I want to study Medicine or Business.”
